Life Story:
On a cold Janary morning in 1994, in the London district of Hackney, under a grey sky and light drizzle, Smbat Meliksetyan was born. His family had emigrated from Armenia to England in the late 1980s. His father, Aram, ran a small carpentry workshop in the city, while his mother, Mariam, worked at a bakery in the neighborhood. Their home was always filled with the smell of fresh bread, the steam of hot tea, and the sound of Armenian folk music.
His childhood unfolded in the complex yet colorful streets of London. At home, he learned about Armenian culture, while at school he played football with English kids. Even in primary school, Smbat developed a special fascination for history books. His teachers admired his endless questions, especially about the Second World War and ancient empires.
His teenage years were shaped by the fast and sometimes harsh rhythm of London. During high school, he learned to play the guitar and joined a small school rock band. However, his family hoped for him to focus on education rather than music. At the age of 18, he was accepted into the history department at University of Westminster. There, he not only deepened his academic knowledge but also made friends from many different countries.
After graduation, Smbat began working in a small bookshop in central London. Among the shelves, he enjoyed telling visitors from all over the world stories about the city. One day, he met Eleanor, a photographer, in that very bookstore — a turning point in his life. Together, they explored hidden corners of London and traveled to old European cities, combining photography and writing into a small blog.
By the time he reached his thirties, Smbat had become more than just a resident of London — he was like a living memory of the city. He saw the morning fog over Tower Bridge, the sounds of street musicians in Covent Garden, and the first blossoms in Regent’s Park with a poet’s eyes. For him, London was not only the city where he was born and raised, but a home that wove the past and future into every moment of his life.
And one day, sitting at his small desk, sipping his tea, he wrote these lines:

“Sometimes, a person feels their roots not in the soil, but in the pavements they walk upon. My roots are in the stones of London.”

Career Story:
Smbat Meliksetyan was born in 1994 in the Hackney district of London. His childhood unfolded in the city’s fast-paced yet often dangerous streets. From a young age, witnessing crime in his neighborhood deepened his sense of justice. His father was a carpenter, his mother a baker; there were no police officers in the family. But Smbat had already decided: “In this city, someone has to stand for what’s right.”
At the age of 18, he began studying criminology at the University of Westminster. During his studies, he joined the Metropolitan Police’s volunteer support program. From traffic control to neighborhood patrols, he served in various roles. These years on the ground taught him the discipline, communication, and composure that would become the foundation of his career.
In 2016, he joined the Metropolitan Police full-time. His first posting was in Camden, one of the busiest areas of the city. There, he dealt with cases involving drug trafficking, theft, and the nightlife scene. Despite being new to the job, his calm demeanor and logical approach earned him the trust of his team
By 2019, he had completed detective training and moved to the Organized Crime Unit. He worked on gang activity and money laundering operations across London. Months of undercover work, dangerous pursuits, and midnight raids became part of his life. Yet for Smbat, his proudest moment was preventing a gang conflict before it escalated, saving the lives of three young men.
Over the years, Smbat became more than just a police officer — he became a trusted figure in the community. He organized meetings with young people in the neighborhoods, encouraging them to stay away from crime, and supported sports and education projects. For him, policing wasn’t just about catching criminals; it was about making a difference in people’s lives.
Today, in his mid-thirties, he still patrols the stone-paved streets of London. With a notebook in his hand and a radio in his pocket, he witnesses every moment from the city’s morning fog to its glowing night lights. And on every shift, the same thought runs through his mind:

“If there is peace in this city, we must stay vigilant to protect it.”
