Life story:
Arthur Ryu was born in Gujarat, India, to a frugal family where every rupee mattered. His father worked as a truck driver which meant long hours away from home and his mother was dedicated to the household. Life took a turn when their property was seized by corrupt officials pretending to be tax collectors. At the age of 14, he witnessed his father being beaten by men who were sworn to protect him. It was a defining day for Arthur because he learned that power and control over others was never predicated on that which is just, but rather on the rules you write.
Arthur left India when he was in his late teens, determined to never be powerless again. After moving to San Andreas, his first jobs were little ones that helped him save enough to enroll in the academy for law enforcement officers. The naive kid left his ideals behind at the academy when he began to comprehend how much power and money there was for manipulating the law for the right people. This became the only way to survive and thrive.
Career Story:
Arthur’s early career in SAHP was clean - he followed procedure, arrested lawbreakers, earned good reviews from his superiors, and generally moved well through the promotion process. As time went on, however, he noticed that the honest, ethical path did not pay off as much as the shadowy path could. It started out slowly; he would stay away from an inspection for some trusted smugglers as payment to look the other way on occasion. A few staked traffic stops that yielded a couple nice interactions with paid off smugglers later, and he was able to move some illegal cargo without raising suspicion. Using his keen observational skills and context, he started to collect dirt on his colleagues and civilians - just in case there were a few officers or criminals that tried to threaten him. Not to much of a surprise, it was easy to create a network of trustworthy contacts in the social underbelly of society. After he got a few contacts on board, he was able to rely on the consistent flow of black-market products, and information.
Today, Arthur operates in the inflection point between police officer and criminal, all while being able to keep his pockets full, as well as keep a clean, perfect facade in public.
Outcomes:
- Arthur Ryu can refuse to read Miranda Rights or provide a lawyer while processing suspects and refuse to show his ID to civilians or other LEOs in corruption situations.
