Life History:
Akaza was born in the dark alleys of South Los Santos where the light of hope only flickered under broken street lights and the sound of sirens sang him to sleep at night. His family had been ripped apart long before he knew what family actually meant. The streets were filled with violent stories of failed drug deals, street gang violence over pride and territory, and police lights illuminating the walls red and blue. Violence was not the exception; it was a way of life. From a very young age Akaza learned two things: how to survive and how much he wanted to leave this life behind.
Living on the streets has formed Akaza into a man who is very aware of his surroundings and able to think ahead. He can read people's faces, he can think of an escape plan before he walks into a room and he can trust no one completely. Akaza's first friends were the gang members, the hustlers, the thieves; people who are working to just get by and see another day. But hidden underneath all the dirt and chaos was a dream that was just as rare as finding a diamond in the rough: Akaza wanted to not only rule these streets, but to also clean them up. Akaza could see himself wearing a badge protecting the innocent from the violence that had taken from him so much.
His entire world changed that night he lost his best friend Kira, a friend he had grown up with, to the streets they once ran together on.
Career Path:
When he completed his schooling, Akaza came back to Los Santos—not as a scared little boy from the ghetto, but rather as a grown-up who had the willpower to succeed. The Army was where he went; he immediately distinguished himself as being more prepared than his peers. The lessons taught in Combat Training gave him the basic skills and knowledge that were required. He was recognized by his instructors as having outstanding situational awareness, a high level of adaptability, and excellent leadership abilities, even in high-stress situations. The National Guard took an interest in him because of this.
He advanced rapidly through the ranks of the National Guard; he advanced faster than anyone had anticipated. He set a record as one of the youngest National Guardsmen to receive multiple awards and the highest evaluation ratings from his Agency or Department at that time. As Akaza moved up the ladder of success in the National Guard, however, there began to be signs of cracks. What was happening behind closed doors happened to be quite different than what Akaza thought was happening. During this period of time, Akaza discovered that there was a pattern of corruption festering in the system. Money exchanged for favors, and power served to silence issues and bury them under a mountain of dirty deeds, both at the state and local levels. The institution Akaza thought would save Los Santos was in fact rotting from within.
Just as things were coming apart, an old street friend provided the last push. An old associate from the street would come and visit him with a secretive offer. The old friend would guarantee Akaza would receive financial benefits from it, and that he could provide for Akaza's family and keep them protected. Akaza knew he should say no to the proposal, but the power of temptation can wear down even the best of us. One transaction led to another. Suddenly, Akaza was in a precarious situation.
