I’m an OO handler, and collecting evidence in every situation is part of my job — and I always do it. During the store robbery, I was gathering evidence and went closer to ask some questions, like how many hostages they had and how many getaway vehicles they were using. Instead of talking, they took me hostage, which is a violation of rule ER1.2
