Her childhood was nowhere near perfect, or even innocent, her father was an abusive man, not only did he abuse her verbally but also physically, always using his anger as a weapon, and any sharp object that came his way, but it wasn't just that for Maria, she also had to suffer from his friends, her father's friends, who were supposed to be her protectors, were monsters, by the time she was 12, she had lost her innocence, in ways so horrific, she chooses not to remember them.
When she turned 18, she knew she had to run away, anywhere but somewhere to escape the hell she grew up in, the military looked like a good option at that time, a free ticket that earns her money, it was nothing about patriotism, it was all about her survival, she signed an 8-year contract with the military thinking she'd find discipline and purpose, instead she found even more chaos, the wars she had fought in were more than brutal, the things she was forced to do were even worse, these 8 years were the worst, every day she would wake up to cold sweats after having nightmares of the stuff she had to do at some point, by the time the 8 years ended, she was hit with PTSD, not only did her brain functions got affected, but also her soul, she became a walking shadow of who she thought she'd become, but she learned something very valuable, in war, power is everything, and morality is but a luxury.
After returning to civilian life, she realized she couldn't live like this, a boring, quiet, living by rules, and simple life, the chaos inside her was too much for her, so she decided to join a Private Military Contractor, using her former experience in the military, she climbed the ranks, however, the trauma and the hunger for control she carried from her childhood and the battlefield shaped her into someone barely recognized, bribes became more than opportunities, favors turned into currency, her corruption wasn't just greed, it was a way to assert control over a chaotic and cruel world that had stolen everything from her. for years she thrived in this new life, to the point where she became unstoppable or at least she thought, her web of deceit and hypocrisy has finally caught up to her, a whistleblower exposed her corruption, and before she knew it, she had an arrest warrant issued in her name by the International Criminal Court, that's when she realized, he days in Europe were few.
Then she decided to hop on a fishing boat, and sail all the way to the state of San Andreas, a land of opportunity for people like her, here she could reinvent herself, find her inner child and make peace with her, surround herself with people who actually trust her and care about her, people who would not question her morals, but would support her even if she is wrong, more like loyalists, she had obtained a new identity by the name Nova, meaning new bright star, hoping she would be finally at peace, to start over again and to confront herself, she used all the skills she learned in the military, manipulation, strategy, psychology, and survival to keep herself one step ahead of the law at all times, But running doesn't erase the past, everyday she is reminded with all the faces of the people she betrayed, soldiers who died beside her, people who trusted her, and the little girl she used to be, she has built an empire out of lies and corruption, people see her as a force to be reckoned with, a woman who stops at nothing to get what she wants, however beneath the facade is a shattered soul, still fighting wars no one can see or feel.
After coming here to the state of San Andreas, she decided to pursue her career in law, something she didn't do to have her sins forgiven, but was something she did to make up for all the people she abused in her life, countless of people tortured and more had their lives destroyed, maybe it was time for her to do something honorable.
