Beginners often make mistakes that can lead to a ban on Grand Roleplay. In this article we are going to tell you how to avoid such situations and how to enjoy the game punishment free.
Roleplay Basics: Why it matters
On Grand Roleplay .. as our name suggests, we are a Roleplay Server. Real life is important. Each player is playing a character they have designed; a bandit, a cop, a medic the possibilities are endless. Violations of this principle can lead to serious penalties, up to a perma ban. So always remember to stay in character.
Example of Roleplay Violation
Imagine I am roleplaying the role of a gangster and I get killed in the Ghetto. A medic comes to my emergency call, see’s my ID above my head and knows who I am through my ID then starts to talk to me as a friend. This is a rule violation because it mixes IC (In-Character) and OOC (Out of character) information.
Note: IDs above people’s heads are OOC information. Just imagine in the real world, people don’t have floating IDs above their heads. So treat it like that in the city, pretend you don’t see the ID.
The importance of separating IC and OOC Information
Let’s say I’m a member of Ballas gang, but I didn’t disclose that anywhere within the game. If a cop pulls me over randomly and arrests me, knowing im a gangster because he used information from real life this would be a rule violation. That player has used OOC information in an IC context, therefore metagamed to make an impact on the roleplay.
Metagaming: What it is and why you shouldn’t do it
Metagaming is talking about the real world while being within the game world. For example, if someone asks me about one of my youtube videos, even though their character shouldn’t be aware of my media then it becomes a violation. You can get a mute up to a demorgan (jail time) for such actions depending on how much it affected the roleplay.
Exception for admins
If there is an admin in front of you with admin mode enabled (They appear transparent with red text above their head), you can discuss any topic.
Admins are OOC within our city and do not interfere with the RP process… whenever their “tag” is on, all roleplay surrounding them becomes paused while they deal with an issue.
Using information from Discord
Using information obtained in discord in-game is also a violation of rules. You can be penalized for this.
However, using IC information on official organization discords is acceptable. For example: You are a member of LSPD and are in the official LSPD discord. You can read their announcements channel which is an IC channel and use this information in the city.
Rules for cops and PVP
Many new players ask if cops are allowed to kill people for nothing. The simple answer is no. You cannot damage any player for no reason, except in ghetto, where killing on site is allowed. Cops need to have an IC reason to use lethal force on a player and will not go around the city randomly shooting players.
Powergaming: Exaggeration of character capabilities
Powergaming is when a player exaggerates their character’s abilities. For example.. You cannot patch up a friend who is down, while holding your assault rifle in your hands or If you are wounded, get healed .. you cannot immediately get back up and continue fighting as if nothing happened.
UB Driving: What it is and how to avoid penalties
UB driving is when players drive unrealistically. For example: Driving a sports car over the mountains, driving a normal car 400 through the city where your car is flying through the air.
Try to keep your driving as realistic as possible to avoid being punished for UB driving!
Be a kind and adequate player
Try to be polite and do not insult other players. (Obviously if you are a criminal there will be some level of insults, but you should never take it too far). Do not try to cheat the system, for example by transferring your account or accessories to someone else’s account. You can get a perma ban for this and you will both lose assets and progress.
Remember you can always contact admins in the city to get any help and We highly advise you join our official discord and read over the rest of the rules there. Following these simple rules, you will be able to enjoy Grand Roleplay and avoid unpleasant situations. Good luck in the city!
