Kiara Cooperr was born in Uganda to Indian proprietors of a small Nile-side shop. Childhood was a vibrant blend of Ugandan culture and Gujarati tradition. Idyllic childhood abruptly ended when Idi Amin's rule in 1972 forced her family into exile as refugees to the UK. Life was harsh in London, but Aarti became a doctor. Her upbringing encouraged her to serve the displaced populations in Africa. Decades later, she came back to Jinja, touched the Nile, and smiled. Career Story:
Kiara Cooper, born in Uganda but of Indian origin, had always dreamed of becoming a soldier as a child. She would watch documentary films on the Indian Army in Kampala with great wonder. Never discouraged by the opposition from society and the lack of infrastructure, she would work tirelessly day and night, study day and night, and yet remain resolute. Ostracized, suspected, and facing cultural resistance, but never losing faith. She chose to join the Indian Army through the Officer Training Academy, cleared her exams, and successfully enlisted. She stood tall above the flag itself with her strength, courage, and pride – demonstrating that dreams cannot be confined to walls. Lieutenant Kiara Cooper now inspires a thousand girls with the courage to fight for their dreams, just as she had done.
