I’d like to report what I believe was a wrongful arrest and possible violation of Rule 6.10 regarding identification procedures.
I was with my girlfriend looking through shops in a green zone when an officer detained and arrested me, claiming I was open carrying and “running around with a gun,” which I strongly dispute. It wouldn’t make sense for me to be running around armed in a green zone knowing that would be against the rules, so I’m not sure if there may have been some kind of visual bug on his end.
My issue is that I was arrested without being asked to show a passport or being identified first, despite Rule 6.10 stating officers are supposed to ask for identification before making an arrest under those circumstances. That procedure was never followed.
I don’t have a clip of the arrest itself, but the interaction should show I was never asked for a passport, and the officer said he had it on bodycam. If possible, I would like that bodycam reviewed, as I’d like to see what he claims he saw. He also said he would explain what I did wrong “in a second,” but I was arrested before any real explanation was given.
I’m asking for this to be reviewed because from my perspective the arrest was made without proper procedure or clear cause.
