You are standing in the middle of the road, which is completely unrealistic. Lots of cars travel through there at high speed, and render distance also comes into consideration. If you don't want to get killed by a car, you can stand on the sidewalk instead of running into the road and then proceeding to stand still also the crossroad sign is red where are crossing.
