Dear Admins,
We had a store robbery situation earlier today. When we arrived at the location, there were multiple individuals positioned around the area, approximately half of them were on the rooftop while the others were on the ground. Due to being outnumbered and exposed from multiple angles, we decided to hold a safer position across the street instead of directly pushing into an unfavorable situation.
According to rules, our first priority is our life and then comes the hostages life. Since they were robbing the store itself and not controlling the entire street, we believed it was reasonable to maintain distance while still handling the situation properly. They can position themselves wherever they want during the robbery, but logically some of them should still be positioned near or in front of the actual store they were robbing. If they had been positioned there, we would have approached them there as well. In fact, as visible in the POV, at one point we were actually closer to the store than they were. We later moved closer toward the store they were robbing.
I approached and greeted them , but initially they ignored us. After that, I informed them that they were robbing the store and told them to come toward our side for negotiations but instead they gave us a UB demand, saying "Come negotiate here or we kill the hostage"
Just after that the situation eventually went Code B as well. When Carlos stated that we had to approach closer, we explained that we did not feel safe pushing further due to the positioning of the suspects. As visible in the POV, several suspects were still positioned on the rooftop while others remained on the ground, giving them a major tactical advantage. Carlos then spoke with them, after which they came toward us and stated that if we did not come for negotiations, they would kill the hostage, even though we stated that we do not feel safe on the other side. And according to the rules leos have the right to request a location change if they do not feel safe. Immediately afterward, they returned and killed the hostage without us opening fire or escalating the situation. Right after killing the hostage, they also shot us down.
Thank you.
